Not all food awards carry weight. Some feel like industry noise. Others actually reflect what people are eating every week. The Golden Taco Awards are aiming for the second one, and Austin is officially part of the conversation.

According to TacoTuesday.com and Food & Beverage Magazine, the newly expanded Golden Taco Awards are launching as a nationwide, community-driven search to identify the most loved taco spots across the country. No critics. No closed-door judging. Just real customers backing the places they keep going back to.

The goal is to spotlight what they’re calling “Taco Legends” meaning restaurants that already have loyal followings and a reputation that goes beyond hype. These are the spots people recommend without hesitation, the ones that stay busy on a random Tuesday night, and the places that define taco culture in their city.

Michael Politz, Publisher of Food & Beverage Magazine, said the partnership is focused on celebrating restaurants in a more meaningful way while giving them a larger national platform. It’s a shift away from traditional awards and more toward recognizing what communities actually support.

Austin will be one of several featured cities as the awards roll out region by region, alongside markets like Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Phoenix, and Dallas. And if you know anything about this city, you already know the debate here is going to be loud.

How Voting Works

Voting officially begins April 1 at GoldenTacoAwards.com, where each city will have its own dedicated page. Every month, a new region steps into the spotlight, and taco fans can vote for their favorite local restaurants.

At the end of each cycle, the restaurant with the most verified votes earns the title of that city’s official Taco Legend.

It’s a simple system, but that’s what makes it interesting. There’s no scoring criteria to decode and no panel to impress. If a place wins, it’s because people showed up for it.

Winners receive official Golden Taco Award wall art and a certificate from TacoTuesday.com, along with featured placement on the platform, social media promotion, and national exposure across both TacoTuesday.com and Food & Beverage Magazine.

TacoTuesday.com Founder Pamela Waitt said the intent is to give the community a real voice and recognize the places people already love. Not the trendy pop ups or one hit wonders, but the spots that have built something lasting.

With millions of Americans celebrating Taco Tuesday every week, this rollout is tapping into something that already exists and giving it a national stage. For Austin, that means a spotlight on a taco scene that people here take seriously.
