The longtime Austin restaurant is spotlighting its half-pound, wood-fired burger alongside frozen margaritas this summer.
Roaring Fork has built much of its reputation on wood-fired steaks and Southwestern cooking, but one of the restaurant’s most recognizable dishes comes on a bun.
This summer, Roaring Fork is putting the Big Ass Burger back in the spotlight. The half-pound burger is cooked over a real wood fire, then topped with roasted poblano peppers, smoked bacon and melted cheese.
The name may be less than subtle, but the burger itself has become a longtime favorite among Roaring Fork regulars. Its appeal comes from a relatively straightforward combination: plenty of beef, a smoky char from the wood fire and toppings that add heat and richness without burying the burger underneath them.
It is also the kind of unapologetically heavy meal that makes more sense when it’s paired with a frozen margarita.
Roaring Fork’s classic Frozen Margarita is available as is or upgraded to the Big Larry with Grand Marnier. Diners can also add blood orange, huckleberry or mango swirls.
Those looking for something non-frozen, the Founders Margarita combines Socorro Blanco tequila with Cointreau, fresh lime and agave.

The Big Ass Burger is available in both the dining room and Roaring Fork’s Saloon bar. It remains part of the restaurant’s broader menu of wood-fired steaks, seafood and Southwestern dishes, but the summer promotion gives the burger a rare moment as the main attraction.
In a city where restaurants regularly chase the next viral sandwich, limited-time collaboration or wildly unnecessary condiment, Roaring Fork is making the case for sticking with the thing people already come back to order.
