Roya is bringing together Persian food, Napa Valley wine and a shared sense of hospitality for a one-night dinner this September, with the Ashes & Diamonds Winery dinner.
On Monday, September 14, Chef and Owner Amir Hajimaleki will host Ashes & Diamonds Winery founder Kashy Khaledi for a four-course dinner inside Roya’s intimate wine room. The evening pairs Hajimaleki’s modern approach to Persian cooking with wines selected and poured by Khaledi, whose Napa Valley winery draws inspiration from the region’s winemaking era of the 1960s and 1970s.
That shared Persian heritage gives the dinner a little more depth than the standard chef-and-winemaker pairing.
Guests will taste six Ashes & Diamonds wines throughout the evening, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and multiple vintages of the winery’s Saffron Vineyard Mountain Cuvée. Some of the bottles being poured are not currently available for public purchase.
Chef Amir’s menu opens with Scallop Ghalieh, featuring dayboat scallop, tamarind herb stew and smoked trout roe, paired with the winery’s 2024 Chardonnay.
The second course brings Lamb Kabob Torsh with charcoal-grilled lamb loin, turnip mousseline and walnut-pomegranate glaze, accompanied by the 2023 Rouge and Cabernet Franc.
For the main course, Australian Wagyu Chengeh is served with onion soubise, Ghormeh Sabzi essence and tahdig crisps. Three wines will accompany the dish, including the 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2022 and 2017 vintages of the Saffron Vineyard Mountain Cuvée.
Dessert finishes with a Persimmon Tartlet layered with pistachio-cardamom frangipane, quince preserves, roasted Fuyu persimmon, whipped labneh, candied pistachio and finger lime caviar.
The dinner gives guests a chance to experience two distinctly different expressions of Persian identity: one through the kitchen and the other through the vineyard.
Tickets are $250 per person, including tax and gratuity.
