Celebrated chef Kristen Kish is presenting her adventurous culinary prowess to the next level with a new series from Nat Geo, “Restaurants at the End of the World,” which premiered on March 21 on Disney+. The four-part docuseries follows Kish as she travels to remote corners of the world in search of the secret ingredients that make up the world’s most unique and out-of-the-way restaurants. From Boquete, Panama, to Svalbard, Norway, North Haven Island, Maine, and Paraty, Brazil, Kish explores the people, places, culture, and traditions that go into creating unforgettable dining experiences in some of the most isolated and unlikely locations.

A select group of attendees at SXSW was treated to a sneak preview of the series at a special dinner held at Arlo Grey in Austin, Texas, on March 14. The event featured dishes inspired by different episodes of the series, allowing guests to experience the same flavors and ingredients that Kish encountered on her travels. The menu celebrated each location, from Maine-inspired Parker House rolls to Arctic char and strawberry semifreddo, and Kish herself was on hand to mingle with guests and introduce clips from the upcoming series.

The aim of both the dinner and the series is to showcase the incredible tenacity it takes to run restaurants in such remote locations. Each episode of “Restaurants at the End of the World” follows Kish behind the scenes with local purveyors, farmers, herders, kitchen crew, managers, and head chefs to hear their stories and learn about the challenges they face. By unearthing the culture and heart behind global cuisine, Kish showcases the balancing act required to bring unique food to the table around the world.

“Food has an unparalleled power to bring us together and teach us about one another and the world around us, and we see that firsthand by going to restaurants in the world’s most remote areas,” says Chef Kish. “Filming this series with National Geographic was an adventure of a lifetime that taught me so much about an industry I’ve been steeped in my whole life. I can’t wait for viewers to come along on the journey with us and experience these dishes at restaurants most never even knew existed.”

If you missed the screening at SXSW, you can catch the first episode of “Restaurants at the End of the World” on Disney+ now. Join Kish as she embarks on a culinary adventure like no other, and discover the hidden gems that make up the world’s most remote dining destinations.
