Austin summer doesn’t ease in. It shows up in May like it’s got somewhere to be, and by June the sidewalk itself is a threat. The correct response is not “toughen up.” The correct response is a pool, a cocktail, and a kitchen that isn’t phoning it in.

Over the last few years Austin’s hotel scene figured out that a pool is a food and beverage program, not an amenity you tolerate on your way to the ice machine. Some properties still treat the pool bar like an afterthought with a laminated menu. Others built entire identities around it. This guide is about the ones worth your day pass money, sorted by what actually happens once you’re in the chair.

Azul Rooftop -Westin Austin

310 E 5th St. | Austin’s highest rooftop pool and bar boasts spacious and comfortable poolside cabanas, fire pits, and an innovative menu including craft cocktails, f’rose, tasty snacks and bottle service. Enjoy the best views of downtown while enjoying a cocktail or a bite to eat.

Cabana Club

5012 E 7th St. | The one entry on this list that isn’t a hotel. No day pass, no room key, no membership required. Cabana Club’s East Austin pool deck is free and open to the public seven days a week, 21 and up on the pool deck itself. The pool bar runs Friday through Sunday, but the clubhouse bar serves the pool deck (in a non-breakable cup) the rest of the week. Grey’s Kitchen and two rotating food trucks cover the food side. If you want a pool day without booking a hotel room, this is currently the best option in the city.

Kitty Cohen’s

2211 Webberville Rd | If you’d rather not pay hotel-day-pass prices for a swim, Kitty Cohen’s East Austin backyard is the answer. The pool’s shallow, the vibe is unapologetically 1970s, and the frozen daiquiris come out of a machine with its own name (Kitty’s Daiquiri Shack). No day pass required, just show up.

JW Marriott – Edge Rooftop

110 E 2nd St | One of the highest vantage points over Congress Avenue and Lady Bird Lake, with an Olympic-inspired lap pool layout that looks better than it swims. Cabanas rent by the group, the food is simple (burgers, snacks, the basics done fine), and there’s now an evening lounge on the terrace open to non-hotel guests after dark.

Austin Marriott Downtown – Zanzibar

304 E Cesar Chavez St. |Seven floors up and genuinely calm, which is rare for anything attached to downtown Cesar Chavez. Pool access is for hotel guests only, but Zanzibar the bar is open to everyone, which makes it a solid “meet a friend for a drink with a view” spot even if you’re not swimming.

W Hotel – Wet Deck

200 Lavaca St. | he Wet Deck has spent a decade being the pool where Austin goes to be seen, and it hasn’t slowed down. Day passes run $15 weekdays, $30 on Sundays, with cabana rentals for groups. Sunday Soundwave brings a DJ into the mix if you want your pool day to also be a pool party.

Fairmont Austin Rooftop Pool

101 Red River Street Austin |Vegas energy on the seventh floor, complete with complimentary chilled towels and frozen fruit service, which is either the most Austin-luxury detail imaginable or a sign we’ve all gotten soft. Either way, the cocktail menu and elevated snacks back it up. Day passes start at $40, with cabana and day bed upgrades.

Hotel Van Zandt – Geraldine’s

605 Davis St | Rainey Street views from the fourth floor, and a food and drink program that’s more ambitious than most hotel pools bother with. Recent menus have run hot honey chicken sandwiches, fire-roasted corn chip queso, and a daiquiri built with watermelon and honeydew-infused rum. Adult passes run $38, kids $15, with cabana options for groups.

The LINE Hotel Pool

111 E Cesar Chavez St | The infinity pool overlooking Lady Bird Lake and the Congress Avenue Bridge is still one of the better views in the city, and it’s now paired with Cantero, the hotel’s dedicated poolside sotol bar. Cocktails lean into agave and sotol rather than the standard frozen-drink playbook, with tacos from Veracruz All Natural on the side. Day passes start around $30.Photo Credit – Hayden Walker

South Congress Hotel

The rooftop pool here is the closest thing SoCo has to an urban retreat, tucked behind lush landscaping just off the noise of the strip. Café No Sé handles the poolside menu. Day passes run $40 for adults, $15 for kids, Thursday through Sunday, with cabana rentals starting at $200 (four-person minimum, food and beverage minimum applies).

Austin Motel Pool

South Congress Ave. | One of the oldest and most unmistakably Austin properties on this list, and it knows exactly what it is. Three-hour day passes start at $20 weekdays and $40 weekends, and the Swim Club membership gets you unlimited swim access all season along with poolside bar privileges. Discounted adult night swim runs 5 to 10 p.m. Reservations required. Reservations are required!

Hotel Magdalena

1101 Music Ln. | Zilker-adjacent and low-key one of the better-designed pools in the city. Day passes run $25 for adults, with pairs starting around $45 and family passes around $95. The property’s Picnic at the Pool package (wine, local beer, or frozen cocktails plus a la carte bites) is still available for groups who want the full spread. Passes can be reserved through Resy.

Carpenter Hotel

400 Josephine St | A Zilker neighborhood pool that doesn’t need a reservation to access, with food and drinks from Carpenter’s Hall. The hotel has added membership tiers for regulars who want weekday, weekend, or everyday access, on top of the standard day pass.

East Austin Hotel

1108 E. Sixth Street | Chill poolside with a brimming menu of frozen cocktails and reimagined resort drinks while enjoying a daycation in a gorgeous and relaxing courtyard pool setting at East Austin Hotel. Hotel Ella

1900 Rio Grande St | Historic, central, and genuinely relaxing. The Parlor Bar makes one of the better Moscow Mules in town, and Goodall’s Kitchen handles heartier fare like a Hill Country grain bowl for anyone who wants lunch, not just snacks. Pool passes run $25 on Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with complimentary parking included.

Canopy Hotel – Pool Deck

604 West 6th Street | A short drive gets you a full rooftop daycation, with skyline views from the loungers or a private cabana. Day passes run $50, with discounted valet at $10.

Otopia Rooftop Pool

1901 San Antonio St | The only rooftop pool in the Campus District, with summer-leaning signature cocktails and light bites. Day passes start at $45, with complimentary parking and towel service.  Parking and towel service are complimentary.

Omni Barton Creek Resort

8212 Barton Club Dr | If you want the Hill Country version of a pool day rather than the downtown version, this is it. Three outdoor pools, nine food and beverage concepts on property, and a rotating poolside pop-up bar (the current one is Omni Original Tiki Social, serving tiki wings with rum and pineapple glaze and a fresh tuna poke bowl). Day passes run $75.

Austin Proper

600 W 3rd St. Downtown’s most quietly ambitious hotel pool. La Piscina, the rooftop restaurant, runs a Tex-Mex-leaning brunch that includes a fajita worth building your day around, plus dulce de leche French toast for anyone who came for breakfast, not a swim. Order a mimosarita if you want to know exactly what you’re getting into. Pool access details vary by season and are best confirmed directly with the property.

Commodore Perry Estate

4100 Red River St. The most upscale pool on this list, full stop, and one your readers should know about even if they can’t walk in off the street. Access is largely reserved for hotel guests and members, but the estate’s poolside menu, running 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., includes frosé, elevated bites, and a rotating seasonal cocktail program. Worth booking a night if you want the full Austin luxury pool experience in one stay.

Lone Star Court

The Domain. Easy to miss if you’re not looking for it, tucked into a provincial-looking building with a classic car parked out front that does all the advertising. The pool leans upscale road-trip-stop rather than downtown rooftop, and the on-site Water Trough restaurant handles poolside food and drinks with daily happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m.

Volente Beach

16107 Wharf Cove, Volente. About a 30-minute drive from downtown, and the closest thing Austin has to an actual beach day. Beachside Billy’s handles the bar side of things, and it’s the move for anyone who wants a full day out rather than a rooftop hour.
