Austin has seen its fair share of wild food collabs, but this one might just take the cake, literally. Loro Asian Smokehouse and Bar has teamed up with Sprinkles to drop a limited time treat that is equal parts sweet, savory, and slightly spicy. Meet the Salted Caramel Miso Cupcake, available from September 22 through October 5 at all Sprinkles and Loro locations across Texas.
This cupcake is not messing around. It starts with caramel cake, gets filled with a smoked sea salt dulce de leche core, topped with red miso cream cheese frosting, and then dusted with Szechuan pepper sea salt. It is like dessert decided to take a gap year in Asia, came back with a new tattoo, and now insists you call it “flavor forward.”

The Collaboration
The brains behind this mashup had a vision. Sprinkles President Justin Murakami says the cupcake is about more than flavor. It is about creating experiences people will remember, which sounds like a lofty mission until you realize you will in fact remember this cupcake, especially when you are still thinking about it three days later.
Hai Hospitality Vice President of Culinary Jack Yoss put it simply: “My family and I are longtime fans of Sprinkles, so when this opportunity to create something together came along, we did not hesitate.” Translation: when Sprinkles calls, you do not ghost them.
