Austin’s most talked-about smashburger just got a permanent address.

JABS, the family-owned smashburger concept that launched out of a food truck on Rainey Street back in 2023, is opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant later this year at 1920 East Riverside Drive in Austin’s South Shore district. The 1,400-square-foot space will give the Vohra brothers, Faseeh and Faraz, a dedicated home base for a brand that has spent the last few years quietly becoming one of the most talked-about burger operations in the city.

Back-to-Back Burger Bash Champions

The timing of the announcement is not a coincidence. On June 13, JABS defended its title at Austin Monthly’s Burger Bash, taking home the No. 1 Overall People’s Choice Award for the second consecutive year. No other restaurant had ever won the top award in back-to-back years at the event. JABS also picked up the No. 3 Judges’ Choice Award at this year’s competition.

That kind of run has a way of making the case for itself.

The brand was also recently ranked No. 31 on the World’s 101 Best Burger Places list, which puts them in some very serious company on a global scale.

What JABS Is Actually About

The concept is not trying to reinvent anything. JABS is built around premium Angus beef, fresh toppings, a signature sauce, and the kind of consistency that keeps people coming back. Faseeh started cooking for family and friends before the whole thing grew into a full-scale food truck operation. Today, JABS also operates as a vendor at Fareground Austin and holds an exclusive partnership at The All Good in Cedar Park.

Co-founder Faraz Vohra put it simply: “My brother Faseeh and I are inspired by the love we’ve received from the Austin community. Opening a brick-and-mortar feels like a natural next step, a chance to serve our loyal customers in the South Shore area and reach new ones while planting deeper roots in Austin’s incredible food scene.”

The South Shore location is expected to open before the end of 2025. Additional details on hours, the full menu, and an opening date will be announced as they become available. If you have not tried JABS yet, you now have a very good reason to drive down Riverside.
