In Texas Monthly’s Top 50 BBQ Joints List, the magazine named eleven spots in the city for their BBQ excellence. Austin area BBQ joints have once again proven to be a frontrunner when it comes to leading the pack in the state’s flagship, culinary offering. Interstellar BBQ came in at no. 2, LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue came in at no. 5 and Franklin Barbecue came in at no. 7, earning spots in the notable Top 10.
Other spots include Distant Relatives, La Barbecue, Micklethwait Craft Meats, and Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ which were all mentioned in the Top 50 listing. Popular spots such as Stiles Switch BBQ (previously listed in the Top 10 in previous issues), J. Leonardi’s Barbeque, Moreno Barbecue, and Whitfield’s received honorable mentions.
This year’s List presents a “changing of the guard”, spotlighting several new frontrunners while drawing inspiration from other cultures and an increase in joints owned by Hispanics or Blacks since the 2017 List.
