Excitement brews in East Austin as the team behind South Austin’s beloved Armadillo Den and the innovative Dainty Dillo ventures into new territory with their latest endeavor: Chalmers. Teaming up with veteran restaurateur and commercial broker Michael Covey, Chalmers emerges as a vibrant blend of restaurant, bar, and music venue, nestled at 1700 E. Cesar Chavez.
Opening in two phases, Chalmers invites you to experience Phase 1 starting Friday, June 28, unveiling its meticulously refurbished space. Embracing the legacy of an old Shell gas station, Chalmers now boasts a 3,000 square foot interior, a 2,000 square foot front deck with a bar nestled within an old gas pump, and a spacious backyard primed for live music under the stars.
Crafted by Canales and Co, Chalmers’ design channels the enchanting allure of West Texas, marrying retro gas station vibes with East Austin eccentricities. Inside, rustic western accents converge with modern aesthetics, while the outdoor space transports you to a classic roadside oasis.
Partner Brett Berry shares, “Chalmers was inspired by our adventures through West Texas, and the essence of Hill Country hospitality. We aimed to infuse Central Texas with that same warmth, reflected in Chalmers’ ambiance and cuisine.”
Speaking of cuisine, Chalmers’ menu promises a journey of flavors, featuring delights like the signature “Tumbleweed” onion rings, Cracked Wings, Fry Bread Tacos, and the indulgent Pecan Pie Brownie. Quench your thirst with specialty cocktails like the Frozen Mexican Martini or the adventurous Desert Zombie. View the full food menu HERE.
With Aaron Amtower at the helm as General Manager, Chalmers welcomes guests from Monday to Wednesday, 4 p.m. to midnight, and Thursday through Sunday, from 12 p.m. to midnight (with extended hours until 1 a.m. on Saturdays).
