New Neighborhood Destination, Rebel Pizza Bar Underway in North Austin

Partners in longtime local favorite, Suzi’s China Grill, will open a new dining destination, anchored by extensive bar and inventive pizza menu

August 6, 2015 (Austin, TX) – Today the owners of a new Austin neighborhood destination, Rebel Pizza Bar announce that the restaurant will open its doors in North Austin at 7858 Shoal Creek later this summer. Rebel, a refined, fast-casual style restaurant will offer a full menu of specialty pizzas comprised of thin, crispy crusts created using Marsal and Sons pizza ovens and locally procured toppings, as well as a range of appetizers and desserts. The restaurant will offer a full bar featuring local beer and craft cocktails complemented by counter service.

The space, located directly above Suzi’s China Grill provides a new option in the neighborhood. With a relaxed, social atmosphere and art-centric design, the restaurant offers views of the Shoal Creek area with a rooftop outdoor space that will include a Bocce ball area, multiple TVs and covered seating. The large second floor restaurant will offer seating for 150 with a centrally-located full bar and expansive outdoor patio.

Suzi Yi, owner of Suzi’s China Grill & Sushi Bar located below the forthcoming Rebel Pizza Bar is leveraging her knowledge of the local customer base and dedication to hospitality. Suzi is joined by restaurant consultant Frank Seely and wife Nina Seely, as well as consulting chef Alex Kahn. Kahn brings experience from notable Austin restaurants NoRTH and as Executive Chef at Trento, along with culinary experience at La Cote Bosque and Oceana in New York City, Kahn draws from his experience with Italian food to help create the restaurant’s signature pies.

“Just like Suzi’s, we bring our dedication to hospitality and great food in a casual atmosphere. We think that those combined elements coupled with Rebel’s unique feel and spirit, will be a big draw to the neighborhood and Austin locals,” says Suzi Yi.

“We see the menu as no-fuss, easy to order and also delicious,” says Alex Kahn. “It will offer a variety of fun and flavorful pizza options that can be ordered at the counter but enjoyed table-side with any number of our hand-crafted cocktails and local beer selections.”

“Guests can also order Rebel Pizza To-Go. We see the space and the food as a great happy hour, dinner and late night destination or a quick bite with the entire family,” says Frank Seely.

Weaving in Nina Seely’s passion for the local arts, the restaurant’s walls are lined with graffiti curated by Justen Foss and created by more than 11 local artists. The work welcomes guests at the entrance and proceeds up the stairs to the interior and can be enjoyed throughout the space. Locally based and nationally known artists added their personal tags and touch to the unique and evolving project. Dynamic and vibrant, the street art embodies the Rebel personality and regular updates and art events will be planned in the space to both offer guests new art to enjoy as well as to support Austin’s creative community.
