Chris Baker, owner of Arlo’s Truck looks like any one of his young customers. Sporting black rectangular-framed glasses, a tight superman-ice-cream colored tank top, full sleeve tattoos, and a welcoming smile, I thought he was just another person in line when he asked me, “What are you getting?”

“The bacon cheeseburger; but I’m not Vegan, so I’m nervous,” I honestly confessed.

He smirked, “I’ll tell you what – if it isn’t one of the best burgers you’ve tasted period, then the food is on me.” And that is how I met Chris Baker, the man behind ARLO’S, the 100% vegan curbside kitchen with one of the most amazing burgers I’ve ever tasted – period.

The well-cooked burgers have a homemade feel to them. The buns are toasted and warm in your finger-tips, providing a freshly baked taste without falling apart after the first couple of bites. Cheddar cheese is melted over thick strips of bacon (that would make any pig jealous), helping provide the burger’s necessary crunch. Additional toppings of shredded green lettuce, pickles, sliced tomato, onion, ketchup, mustard, and mayo complete the sandwich. Despite the number of toppings, the burger is not messy, which adds to its decadence.

Located in the parking lot of Cheer up Charlie’s on Red River Street, ARLO’s has ample outdoor seating, a friendly come-as-you-are ambience, and an affordable all-items-under-$10 menu.  Chris offers a variety of discounts; taking care of his customers is part of his recipe for a great experience. “It really is,” he reiterates. “In fact, anyone who mentions this article, will get a discount.”
