Austin Film Society (AFS) today announced that they’ve tapped the team at WHM Hospitality to develop the food and beverage program for their twin screen arthouse cinema and event hall, the AFS Cinema, opening soon in Austin’s Highland neighborhood. In keeping with AFS’s goal of creating a welcoming space that invites audiences into a world of international film history and culture, the food and beverage offerings will venture far afield from megaplex theater fare.
The custom-designed kitchen will produce updated classic cinema fare along with clean, fresh, and unexpected offerings that are as easy to order and grab on the way into the theater as they are satisfying to sit with and enjoy in the lobby before or after screenings.
Kitchen offerings will include items such as small batch, heirloom popcorn, sustainably raised pork hot dogs as well as curated cheese and charcuterie plates, and fresh cut local veggies complemented by house-made dips. The full-service bar will offer beer and wine along with cocktails made from quality ingredients that are inviting and fun. Examples include rum and cokes made with smoked gum syrup, and gin tonics crafted from Mexican tonic infused with fresh herbs and finished with mineral water.
