77 Degrees Rooftop, is the latest concept to open on Rock Rose at the Domain and is quickly becoming one of the most popular spots in North Austin to spend happy hour, a fun night out and Sunday-Funday. We recently stopped by the new beautiful rooftop bar for a preview of their exotic cocktails and small bites just one month after it’s opening, just in time for the Summer season.

What to Drink

The cocktail menu highlights several tasty concoctions from mixologist Ryan Baird, featuring the El Nino with Myers’s Dark Rum, Bacardi Oakheart, lime, and ginger beer; the Norman’s Cay with Bacardi Coconut, Bacardi Mangu Fusion, Bacardi Pineapple Fusion, coconut water, and lime; as well as classics reminiscent of the beach, like the Singapore Sling with Bombay East Gin, cherry heering, Bénédictine, pineapple and lime juices, and soda; and an innovative Passion Fruit Swizzle with Grey Goose La Poire, St. Germaine, fresh squeezed pineapple juice, and passionfruit syrup. 77 Degrees offers happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. featuring $5 appetizers, $5 wells, and $4 Mexican beers. They also offer hookah specials all day and night on Wednesday and their signature Party on the Roof s every Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m.

What to Eat

The cocktails are exotic and refreshing, but 77 Degrees offers several tasty small and shareable plates perfect for the Summer season.  My personal favorite is the Fire Grilled skewers made from Grilled Shrimp & Bacon, Guava Glazed Chicken, and Spicy Soy-Marinated Flank Steak. Each served with a honey-habanero aioli and a bed of sweet corn-plantain mash.  I’m a huge sucker for fried Chips and Salsa, fortunately 77 Degrees does not disappoint in the diverse selections of their modest menu.  The salsa selections consist of a moderately spicy house fire red salsa, a green tomatillo salsa, and my favorite, the pineapple and black bean salsa. We also shared a plate of delicious Ground Beef Empanadas topped with sweet mojito sauce which may be the best I’ve had in North Austin.

The Space

The impressive, multilevel space was designed by Jeff Krolicki along with branding work by Titled Chair Creative.  It features an elevated, stylish design with crafted tile and wood flooring throughout the entire layout. The main bar bar sprawls 20+ feet with stool seating at the front of the house, along with white cushioned outdoor seating highlighted by two extra large cabanas that can be reserved for private parties.  The bar is the third out of four concepts launched on Rock Rose Ave. by Union Venture Group’s Jeff and Darren Van Delden.
