The Greek Bar in South Austin, offers a fresh take on Mediterranean dining with a menu rooted in tradition and elevated by modern touches. Located at 534 E. Oltorf Street, the new restaurant is the creation of hospitality veterans Dimitri Karabinis and Daphne Greer, who bring their Greek heritage and decades of industry experience to the concept.

Executive Chef Brian Beach, formerly of San Francisco’s Kokkari, leads the kitchen with a menu built entirely from scratch. Diners can expect a thoughtful selection of traditional spreads, Mezze plates, and mains like grilled lamb chops, braised octopus, and moussaka. The beverage program highlights Greek wines and Mediterranean-inspired cocktails made with ingredients such as thyme, kalamata olives, and pomegranate.

“We wanted to create a space that feels like a true reflection of our roots, while also capturing the relaxed energy of Austin,” says Karabinis. Greer, who previously held leadership roles at Juniper and The Peacock, adds that the restaurant aims to fill a growing local appetite for quality Mediterranean cuisine in a welcoming setting.

The interior, designed by internationally recognized designer Luke Havekes, features original Saltillo tiles and warm, coastal textures that evoke the casual elegance of a Greek taverna. The space is intimate and inviting, balancing vintage charm with modern comfort.

The Greek Bar is open Tuesday through Sunday from 4 to 10 p.m., with brunch service planned for the near future. With its commitment to hospitality, quality ingredients, and a distinct sense of place, The Greek Bar is poised to become a neighborhood favorite for both casual nights out and memorable gatherings.
