Princess Cruises has long been synonymous with romance. They are the Love Boat after all. So it’s probably not terribly surprising that they would challenge themselves to break the Guinness World Record for mass renewal of vows. I am honored to say I was there with my wife and thrilled to say we broke the record with 1443 couples!
The couples renewing their vows were sailing on three Princess Cruises ships – Regal Princess, Royal Princess, and Crown Princess. Together we broke the standing record of 1,201 couples, previously set in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I was on the Royal Princess with my wife, and we had the best time on our five-night cruise to Cabo San Lucas.
The ceremony took place on the top decks of all three ships on February 11, 2020, with three official Guinness World Records Adjudicators on each ship to verify the record. Gavin MacLeod, who played Captain Stubing on “The Love Boat” officiated on the Regal Princess with Jill Whelan, who played his daughter Vicki on the show, serving as matron of honor. On Royal Princess and Crown Princess, the Captains of each ship officiated.
It was wild and romantic and I got all teary when I started repeating my vows after the Captain. We have only been married since March 17, 2018. So maybe that’s why I still got weak in the knees when we said those magical words. I wore my original wedding gown and my wife wore the her wedding tux. So it was hard not to be transported back to that amazing day less than two years ago.
We met all kinds of wonderful people on our Princess Cruises trip aboard Royal Princess. We went on two excursions with Cabo Adventures – a romantic sunset sail and an early morning luxury sail that lead to fantabulous whale watching. We watched Movies Under the Stars. We danced in Club 6. We lounged in the gorgeous Sanctuary and enjoyed high tea. We had incredible massages and facials in the spa. We had an outrageous meal at the famed El Farallon at the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos.
And, of course, we ate all kinds of amazing food. Princess Cruises is known for its gorgeous ships, fabulous staff, and, without a doubt, mouth-watering food that will make you forget you are in the middle of the ocean. Here’s a little glimpse into our culinary caper…
