Mongers Market + Kitchen, the neighborhood ocean-to-table seafood market, raw bar and kitchen, is moving from its longtime East Side location into the former Vino Vino space at 4119 Guadalupe St. in Hyde Park. The restaurant is set to open in early July.
While Mongers enjoyed a robust business at its East Cesar Chavez Street location — including gaining a loyal following of seafood purists and restaurant-industry chefs — the move will enable Mongers to establish itself in the heart of a much-loved local neighborhood, long a goal of Owners Chef Shane Stark and Julie Stark, and welcome more local families into the establishment.
The new location will double Mongers’ interior dining space, be able to offer more seating, and establish a semi-private dining room ideal for private events and parties. As ever, the restaurant’s seaside décor, designed by Julie Stark, will evoke a welcoming seafaring theme with a modern, coastal vibe. Additionally, the new Mongers will include a full bar and an expanded fresh-fish market that will feature more whole-fish specialties and chef-prepared grab-and-go dishes.
While Mongers current menu will stay in place for the time being, over time Mongers’ menu will be expanded too, with Stark adding many new dishes, from land as well as from sea, that will join longtime seafood favorites and raw-bar selections. New menu items will include more crudo and smoked fish options, family dinner favorites classics and meats like steak, pork cheek and short rib.
