Get ready to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Austin! This holiday originally commemorated the Mexican army’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla in 1862, but it has since become a major celebration in the United States. Austin is no exception, and the city is gearing up for some exciting festivities with delicious food and drinks.

From traditional Mexican cuisine to Tex-Mex favorites, there is no shortage of options for celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Austin. Join in the fun and indulge in some of the best food and drinks the city has to offer!

Fiesta Austin at Fiesta Gardens

In one of the most popular places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Austin, the event will feature live music, food vendors, and cultural performances. Get tickets online at fiestaaustin.org. This will take place Saturday, May 6 from 10 am to 11 pm.

AKB Austin

To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, AKB Austin, the new boutique hotel bar at Archer Hotel in northwest Austin, is offering Mexican-themed specials from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm on May 5. These specials include $5 margaritas, drafts, bottles, corn chips with salsa and guacamole, and mole chicken leg lollipops.

De Nada Cantina

De Nada on East Caesar Chavez will be going all out with a pig roast, cornhole, face painting, and an outdoor bar. They will also have a Live mariachi 6-8 pm and a DJ from 8-10 pm.

Las Perlas

Las Perlas, has organized a Cinco de Mayo celebration which features various cocktail specials, including $9 margaritas and palomas, as well as tacos from an on-site food truck called Asador. The event also includes DJ sets to provide entertainment. The bar is located at 405 East Seventh Street in Downtown.

Ma’Coco

Head over to Ma’Coco, on 501 Comal Street in East Austin where they’ll be hosting a special event that features mezcal tastings with Dos Hombres, DJ sets, and plenty of margaritas. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to indulge in delicious food and drink while enjoying great music.

Vera Cruz Fonda

Head over to Veracruz Fonda, the newest restaurant of Veracruz All Natural located at 1905 Aldrich Street in Mueller. Starting at 11 a.m., the restaurant is offering a range of special drinks, including a mezcal-based paloma, margarita, and frozen cocktails. On top of that, you can enjoy a 20 percent discount on these drinks and the botanas food section. To complete the festive atmosphere, DJ sets will be playing all day long. Don’t miss out on this exciting event!

La Barbecue

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo at La Barbecue with Leanne Mueller’s tacos from 2p-6p and @zilkerbeer Gold Metal award winning la Beer, celebrating the 2-year anniversary of their brick and mortar location.

Cavalier

Cavalier is offering their version of its Taco Bell pop-up, now called Chapo Bell, featuring dishes that are no longer available at the fast-food chain, such as Cool Ranch crunch burritos and double-decker tacos. In addition to the food, you can also enjoy a variety of beers, tequila specials, and more from 7 to 10 p.m. Don’t miss out on this unique and delicious celebration at The Cavalier!

Azul Rooftop Bar

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Azul’s Rooftop Party on May 5 from 5 PM to 12 AM. Enjoy live DJ music and Cinco de Mayo-themed drinks, like Gato de Noche and Margarita featuring Dos Hombres for $8 each. Dos Hombres will also be on site from 5 PM to 7 PM with free samples and swag. Share a bucket of Modelo + DosXX (5 cans per bucket) for $15.

Gabriela’s Group

Get ready for Cinco de Mayo with Gabriela’s Group! All their concepts, including Gabriela’s (both locations), Taquero Mucho, Revival Coffee, and Mala Vida, are offering all-day drink specials, including $6.00 Margaritas, $3.00 Espolon Shots, $3.00 Silencio Mezcal Shots, and $3.00 Paleta shots. Starting at 6:00 PM CST, there will be live music and local DJs at each location. Enjoy Bidi Bidi Banda (a local Selena tribute band) and DJ Danny Ritmo at Gabriela’s South Austin, Mariachi Los Toros and DJ Spicy at Gabriela’s Downtown, DJ Kick It at Taquero Mucho, DJ Solvyb at Revival Coffee, and La Autentika 512 at Mala Vida. No reservations are necessary, so just walk-in and join the fun!

Corner Restaurant (JW Marriott)

Corner will feature $10 margaritas and $40 shareable vessels. Try a signature Corner Marg deliciously composed of Olmeca Altos Reposado, blood orange, organic agave, and lime.

Chuy’s

If you’re craving Tex-Mex on Cinco de Mayo, be sure to check out Chuy’s! This Austin-born chain is offering some great specials at all of its locations. You can enjoy discounts on their famous grande margaritas and frozen lemonades, as well as one-dollar tequila floaters for margaritas

Joe’s Mexican Bakery

Joe’s is participating in a multi-day celebration of pan dulce at the French Legation. You can indulge in delicious conchas, pink cakes, and other baked goods from Joe’s, while also experiencing an audio installation of the late Joe Avila, the founder of Joe’s, talking about Mexican baking. The event runs from Tuesday, May 2 through Saturday, May 6, so be sure to stop by and enjoy the delicious treats and rich history.

League Kitchen

The league is featuring $5 Margaritas all day, plus Chef Specials, and Hatch Chile Pork Enchiladas, Skillet Tachos, Shrimp Veracruz, and Santa Fe Burgers. Featuring live music on the patio by Mariachi Amor 5pm-8pm. 

Z’tejas

Z’Tejas is celebrating Cinco de Mayo (May 5) with “Cinco for Cinco”. The event offers $5 house margaritas available all-day, a live DJ starting at 5 p.m., a piñata to take a swing at and enticing giveaways.

New Orleans, LA - On October 22, 2024, I recently had an opportunity to attend the grand opening of Caesars New Orleans, marking the completion of a stunning $435 million transformation of the former Harrah’s New Orleans. It was an evening to remember, filled with excitement, luxury, and the vibrant spirit of New Orleans. The festivities began on Canal Street with an exhilarating ceremony led by Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg, President & COO Anthony Carano, and Caesars New Orleans General Manager Samir Mowad. The atmosphere was electric as they joined Caesar himself and an iconic New Orleans second-line band in a lively procession into the casino. It felt like the entire city had come out to celebrate, with Caesars New Orleans team members and Mayor LaToya Cantrell also joining the event to commemorate this historic occasion. Anthony Carano’s pride in introducing Caesars to New Orleans was palpable. “From local favorite Emeril Lagasse to our long-time partner, Chef Nobu, to the beautiful state-of-the-art Caesars Sportsbook, all-new rooms and gaming floor, and of course, our gorgeous new center bar, Octavia, Caesars New Orleans offers something for everyone. It’s a world-class resort in the heart of the Big Easy, and we can’t wait for our guests to experience it,” he said. The ceremony was a spectacle, kicking off with an iconic Mardi Gras float featuring Caesar and his court, and a dazzling firework show that lit up the New Orleans sky. The second-line band then led us revelers into the resort’s elegant center bar, Octavia, where we indulged in a “Taste of Caesars New Orleans.” Each bite from the six on-property restaurants was a delightful journey, capturing the essence of New Orleans’ rich culinary scene. Throughout the night, elemental entertainers, including the Saints Cheer Krewe, Mardi Gras Indians, Zulu Tramps, and showgirls, created an authentic and unforgettable Big Easy experience. Everywhere I turned, there was something new to marvel at, each performance more mesmerizing than the last.
