Galveston is one of the few beach towns in Texas (basically, your beach choices are Galveston, Port Aransas/ Mustang Island, and South Padre.) Therefore, many Texans flock to Galveston during the summer, renting beach houses and spending days and nights on Seawall Blvd.

Number 13 is a steak & seafood restaurant tucked away in the posh Pelican Rest Marina on the outskirts of town. You’ll draw “lucky #13” if you can try out this place for Sunday brunch. One of the best reasons to try lucky Number 13 is the sweeping views of the marina. With not a bad seat in the house, you’ll enjoy an elegant and relaxed meal in the otherwise sandy community.

What to Eat

Their Sunday brunch features a Duck Confit (crispy potato sauté, sunny side eggs & port wine hollandaise sauce) that will make you return. I digress a bit, but on a recent trip to New York, I commented that all restaurants in NYC- even the most elegant- have hamburgers on the menu. Number 13 didn’t disappoint where this is concerned. The Deluxe 13 Burger is your own little burger bar on a plate in front of you: Brazos cheese, Wrights bacon, Point Reyes blue cheese aioli, and served with unique circular homemade French fries on the side.

But, let’s not kid ourselves. The real reason you’re going to want to return time and time again is because of the desserts. The Warm Cacoa Barry Chocolate Molten (topped with Texas pecan praline sauce and vanilla bean gelato) and the S’mores (moist honey graham cake with chocolate mousse, ganache, salted caramel gelato and homemade torched marshmellow) are di-no-mite! I will be dreaming of these desserts tonight.

You also might fancy hitting Number 13 just to sit out on the deck and have a cold drink while overlooking the peaceful marina. I do believe I’ll add that to my itinerary when I visit next.
