Relish Summer at the Award-Winning Sage Hill Inn

Hill Country, Texas—Summertime is in full swing at the Sage Hill Inn Above Onion Creek, a boutique bed-and-breakfast tucked away on nearly 90 acres of prime Hill Country terrain. Just 15 miles south of Austin, Sage Hill is home to endless views; luxe accommodations, including five newly remodeled rooms; an award-winning restaurant that now serves craft beers and a select wine list; hiking trails and game courts like bocce and horseshoes; and the most amazing sunsets. Sage Hill is the spot to unwind and soak in the slower pace of summer.

Sage Hill Inn was recently honored as BedandBreakfast.com’s Top Luxury B&B, an exclusive distinction. The publication referred to Sage Hill’s “wonderful sunset views” and “world-class restaurant,” noting that the “unique view of the Texas Hill Country and a freshly picked bouquet from the Sage Hill garden complete the warm, generous welcome.”

Two main structures—stately plantation-style houses with a twist of country—greet visitors with an inviting vibe. Sage Hill features 16 guest suites, including five newly refurbished rooms that have been meticulously restored, and include such comforts as flat-screen TVs, private fire pits, stylish finishes and spa-like bathrooms. Four private cottages with oversized porches boast amenities ranging from a gourmet kitchen to a decadent bath with a view of the double-sided fireplace.

Austin startup veterans Eric Goldreyer, who founded BedandBreakfast.com, and John Banczak, who was the company’s president, purchased the inn in 2012, and since that time, they have spent roughly $3 million on the property and improvements. The result is a well-conceived concept with careful attention to conservation, design elements, luxurious furnishings and natural aesthetics.

In addition to upgrading the indoor spaces, Goldreyer and Banczak put a great deal of thought and effort into the outdoor areas, including building a 3,000-square-foot deck that surrounds the pool and an oversized 14-person hot tub, adding an extensive 10,000-gallon rainwater catchment that works with the existing gray-water system to irrigate the property, and constructing a greenhouse and composting area to provide the kitchen with fresh, locally sourced produce. There are miles of hiking and birding trails (walking sticks and water provided), hammocks and a well-stocked library for lazy afternoon reading, and game courts—including bocce, horseshoes and washers—for those who want to while away the evening before dinner.

Executive Chef Ryan Castille uses fresh produce grown in the on-property garden, as well as seasonal ingredients from local purveyors, including Dewberry Hills Farms, Brazos Valley Cheese and Farm to Table Austin to create innovative prix-fixe menus. The award-winning Restaurant at Sage Hill now serves craft beers, including a local favorite from Spicewood, and a curated wine list featuring Peay Vineyards and other notable offerings like a 2012 Schug Sauvignon Blanc and a 2011 Fuse Cabernet Sauvignon. A gourmet breakfast and a three-course dinner are included with an overnight stay. A second dinner seating is in the works.

The Garden Spa, which features four massage rooms for single or couples’ treatments and a secluded outdoor area, is the ideal space to indulge and recharge. Menu offerings include everything from facials to full-body mud masques and sugar polishing.

Summertime at Sage Hill Inn translates to simple luxuries, breathtaking views and good times.

Sage Hill Inn is centrally located in Texas at 4444 W. FM 150 in Kyle. The property is easily accessible by car, and an onsite landing spot for helicopters is also available. For more information and rates, call (512) 268-1671 or (800) 579-7686, or visit sagehill.com.
