The brunch sandwich famously know for encompassing both elegance and simplicity is the Croque Madame. Traditionally considered something of a French novelty, the Croque Madame continues to appear on brunch menus all over the city as Austin spreads is culinary wings wider. One of the most versatile of all sandwiches, the Croque Madame is delicious at breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. It’s also once of the most “gramable” as that runny egg makes it extra photogenic.  Here’s six of our favorite ladies in Austin.

Péché

Dining at Péché mimics the atmosphere of dining in an classic bistro in France. The croque madame features a house-cured ham on a housemade brioche with Gruyère Mornay, topped with a fried egg along side a stack of crispy pommes frites.

Yellow Jacket Social Club

The Mister is more of a man’s version of the french lady, featuring smoked ham and Gruyere panini with bechamel and an overeasy egg.  No frills, just delicious as… you know.

Chez Nous

Chez Nous’s regional French cuisine and intimate atmosphere mixes with the vibe of downtown Austin, making their croque madame taste that much finer. The thick bread is buttered and grilled, then stuffed with ham and Gruyère.

Porter Ale House Gastropub

Porter Ale House’s Croque Madame is truly unique and comes loaded with smoked ham, swiss cheese, dijonaise, a fried egg, and house made beer cheese fondue.  Honestly, they had me at beer cheese fondue.

Epicerie

Epicerie’s croque madame highlights regional a regional French brunch at it’s finest. Chef Sarah McIntosh’s version of the famous dish comes with ham, Comté cheese and Mornay sauce, all topped with a farm fried egg and pile of house frites.
