Wedding Oak Winery had a fantastic showing, winning five medals at the esteemed 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. It’s always an honor for our wines to be recognized, and we are especially happy to receive accolades in the largest pool of entries to date with a record 7,162 wines judged this year.

This is certainly strong evidence that Texas wines made with Texas-grown grapes are ready for a national stage, as our wines were evaluated next to entries all over the country. Wines at the 16th Annual San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition were scored by 65 experienced judges from around the world (as far away as South Africa).

Our 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition medals include:

Wedding Oak Winery Rosé, Texas High Plains, 2014— Gold

Wedding Oak Winery Tioja, Texas Hill Country, 2013 — Bronze

Wedding Oak Winery Sangiovese, Texas Hill Country, 2013 — Bronze

Wedding Oak Winery Viognier, Texas Hill Country, 2014 — Bronze

Wedding Oak Winery Tre Vi, Texas, 2014 — Bronze

Our Gold Medal winning 2014 Dolcetto Rosé was made using the Saignée method, which means our winemaker, Penny Adams, separated the juice just after crushing the fruit. This gives it a brief amount of time in contact with the dark grape skins, which gives the wine a bright watermelon color. It was barreled in neutral French oak for approximately eight weeks. This wine has fresh red currant, raspberry and strawberry flavors with a touch of lemon zest. It is a perfect wine to pair with grilled chicken or to enjoy on the porch all year round. With these medals Wedding Oak Winery has been recognized with 42 prestigious awards in international competitions since entering our first competition in 2013.
