Cherrywood’s ‘Artisan’ Pizza Haven

Manor Rd. has a new neighbor in the old hood, making yet another big step in a face-lift that started nearly 5 years ago. UnitD Pizzeria is a 50-seat wood-fired pizzeria next door to Haymaker (Unit D). Boasting a warm material palate composed of wood and blackened steel, the restaurant is beautifully designed by A Parallel Architecture, featuring a cozy but unpretentious atmosphere that seats around 50 patrons. There’s also a gorgeous 16 seat shaded patio, perfect for those warm fall Austin evenings.

Unit D provides a beautiful setting combined with an East Austin vibe, matching the restaurant’s overall charm that’s certain to attract hungry pizza lovers.  Featuring a small artisan menu of wood-fired small plates, and modern interpretations of classic Neapolitan pizzas, every pie is fired-up in an authentic Acunto Mario oven, which has been imported from Naples, Italy.  The oven is prominently featured in the restaurant’s open kitchen as soon as you enter the building.

The kitchen is helmed by Executive chef Chris Turgeon, who received his certification in Neapolitan-style pizza from VPN Americas. Owner Shalou Barth opened Unit D because she and her husband are passionate about artisan pizza and the charm of Manor Road, which was once home to  the old Red House Pizzeria, now closed since 2012, and was located across the street now home to to Salty Sow.
