Uncle Nicky’s is casual Northern Italian cafe in Hyde Park, created by partners Chef Nicholas Yanes, owner and executive chef of Juniper, Brandon Hunt and Zane Hunt of Via 313 and Nickel City, and Nickel City partner Travis Tober.  The concept behind Uncle Nicky’s originates from a desire to cultivate a classic Northern Italian cafe in Austin.  Chef Derrick Flynn helms the pastry program with his assortment of house made pastries, and handmade gelato, while Nick Intonti, formerly Chef de Tournant at Juniper, heads the cafe as chef and operator.

The cafe space was designed by Sanders Architecture, with a goal of conceptualizing an intimate setting based on the inspiration of the Campair bottle highlighting an interior with a bright base trimmed with rich navy blue accents.  It’s comfortable setting allows guests to hang their hat at any time of the day, boasting flexible indoor and outdoor seating for working or gathering. The interiors strike a contrast between minimalist exposed brick walls and rich navy blue accents.

What to Order

Patrons can expect to see an assortment of antipasti, including the Wagyu beef carpaccio and stuffed peppers with mortadella and provolone.  You’ll also see Italian breads topped with Italian ingredients, commonly referred to as Pane Tostato, which include the ‘What’s ‘Nduja?’ which includes smoked spicy Calabrian sausage and Gorgonzola, and the PB&J with pine nut butter, dried fig compote, and roasted garlic.  The cafe also offers a creative take on traditional salads, piadinas, rustic Italian flatbread sandwiches, and classic sandwiches served on fresh focaccia or a roll.

Uncle Nicky’s cocktail program features a menu of classic Italian cocktails, spritzes, and Negronis including the Garibaldi (our favorite), Aperol Spritz and the Boulevadier.  Another house favorite is a tropical Dolce Vita made with Plantation 3 Star Rum, Plantation pineapple rum, coconut sorbet, pineapple, lime, and prosecco.  Bar options also include a selection of beers, Italian wines, and authentic Italian amaro selections guests may add alongside any beverage.

Uncle Nicky’s is located at 4222 Duval Street, in Hyde Park.  For more information, please visit unclenickys.com and follow along on Instagram and Facebook.
