Three new Austin Bars that should get you Excited

This month saw many bar and restaurant closings and also many new venue openings. From the east side to downtown to old school north Austin, here’s 3 new watering holes everyone should visit this month.

 

 

Sellers Underground

Located at 213 W 4th Street, this place takes you back to the days of cool vibes with it’s 70’s decor and movie theme. Cocktails are named after 70’s movies and feature a new twist on traditional cocktails.

Sellers’ drink menu, created by Sellers’ General Manager Aaron Kolitz, embraces classic, time-honored cocktails with a twist; many are named after the defining films of the decade like the Alex Delarge (1971’s Clockwork Orange), the Smokey Reynolds (1977’s Smokey and the Bandit), the Holy Hand Granade (1975’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and the Evening Prayer (1967’s Casino Royal).

You can find this bar easily by it’s bright neon yellow sign. Inside there’s exposed brick, curved walls and convex ceiling, large center bar and DJ booth. Don’t forget to check out the dance floor.  Photo by @thedishstance

Tillery Kitchen and Bar

Located at 3201 E Cesar Chavez, when they say located by the Colorado River, they mean ON the river.  A spacious outdoor deck overlooks the river and makes for a serene setting for dinner or drinks. Indoor you get the same view from the glassed-in dining room and also makes a great venue for corporate meetings or parties.

Quietly opening mid-January, this place is sure to be a destination for both locals and tourists. Reservations are recommended as seating is first come, first serve. Headed up by Daniel Keshvari and Justin Trapani, both are hands-on as bartender and chef respectively.

The menu is listed as ‘Fun, Fabulous and Just a Little Mediterranean’ and has everything from sharables to skewers and entrees. With items like Lamb Friters, Baby Beet Sliders, Cubano Pork Confit Sandwiches and Pappardelle; you’ll indulge in food and ambiance.

The Local Post Pub

 

Located at 7113 Burnet Road, this venue is housed in the old Dallas Nightclub and still has the casual, laid back feel. You’ll find a game room, community tables and outdoor patio along with a full kitchen serving simple yet delicious food items and there’s 3 full bars to take care of your cocktail needs.

Brought to Austin by Jeff and Darren Van Delden, The Local Post is a family-friendly neighborhood restaurant from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and transitions to a 21-and-older space in the evening. From 3 to 7 p.m., The Local Post hosts happy hour with $2.50 domestic pints, $3 wells, and daily drink specials for $3 or $4.
