Amid the COVD-19 epidemic, Summer travel has limited Austinites on their selections of destinations. In order to practice effective social distancing guidelines, we’re avoiding flying on crowded plans and opting for short road trips in Texas. We recently visited the central Texas town of Salado, Texas, only 45 mins North of Austin, to stay at the Stagecoach Inn.
The building was originally constructed in 1861 making it the oldest and most historic structure in Salado. It’s also known to have been visited by famous and distinguished historical figures like Sam Houston, George Custer, Robert E. Lee, and notorious outlaw Jesse James. It was restored and opened in 1943 and has built a reputation as one of the most charming destinations for travelers, events, and dining to generations of families.
The hotel maintains its historic presence combined with modern design and decor that are thoughtfully implemented throughout the property. The inn offers 48 intimate guest rooms that offer a thoughtfully appointed space with simple furnishings and exclusive, deluxe amenities including a private patio with butterfly chairs, Sferra bed linens, and smart TVs in every room.
Pet-friendly (non-refundable deposit of $50 per dog)
Free Wi-Fi
Free onsite parking
Heated pool with weekend poolside service (please note pool bar service is seasonal and dependent on the weather)
Seven acres of landscaping with lush greenery and native Texas plants
The inn offers a heated saltwater swimming pool along with weekend poolside bar service, with a Shady Villa Bar offerings classic poolside cocktails recipes perfect for the summer season.
The Stagecoach Inn’s restaurant honors the traditions of the past along with a modern twist on several classic Texas staples. The restaurant is open for daily dine-in service with limited seating both upstairs in the Sam Bass and Liz Carpenter dining rooms as well as downstairs in the Stagecoach deck. The restaurant’s menu reflects modern dining preferences that offers a mix of modern recipes as well as innovative interpretations of traditional Texas favorites.
Stagecoach Inn is located at 416 S. Main Street, in Salado. To learn more about the Stagecoach Inn and to book a reservation, visit their website www.stagecoachsalado.com.
