September 9, 2015 (Austin, TX) – The team behind Mean Eyed Cat, Lavaca Street Bar and Star Bar announced today the reopening of Lala’s will be on Friday, September 11, the neighborhood bar located in North Austin at Burnet Road and Justin Lane. An Austin institution for 43 years, guests can expect the same cheerful holiday lights, tinsel and vintage décor on display year round that Austinites and visitors have grown to love since original owner Frances Lala kept them up after the holidays in 1972.
“We’re in the business of keeping these Austin hangouts as the best versions of themselves and are not replaced with condos,” says partner Max Moreland, also at the helm for last year’s Mean Eyed Cat renovation. “Lala’s has been an Austin institution for a long time and we want to make sure it remains the great neighborhood bar it always has been.”
The team behind Lala’s includes partners Matt Luckie, Max Moreland and Anngay Tenney of Mean Eyed Cat, Gibson Street Bar and Lavaca Street Bar, along with Stubb’s Bar-B-Q’s Ryan Garrett and Mike Levine. Longtime neighborhood residents Kelly Chappel and Levine reached out to Luckie and Moreland when they realized their neighborhood favorite was in danger of closing for good. “We saw the way the team updated Mean Eyed Cat, it still reflects the best of the place but is better, and we hoped to maintain the flavor of Lala’s in a similar way,” notes Chappel. “So regulars note: The Bloody Mary will not be changing,” he adds.
The iconic décor, including mechanical elves, old timey jukebox, Christmas lights and fake snow remains the same with the space getting a mild refresh later in the fall by opening up the space, adding a patio and offering Stubb’s Bar-B-Q for guests to enjoy.
Located at 2207 Justin Lane near the corner of Burnet Lane and Justin Lane. Lala’s will be open seven days a week beginning Friday, September 11, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Media inquiries can be directed to
