Since opening in 2019, Rosewood has focused on serving unexpected interpretations of classic Southern Texas cuisine in the hip East 11th Street District neighborhood, just blocks from downtown Austin.  The restaurant recently launched an all new Happy Hour menu available every day from 5-6 pm., offering food and drink specials rooted in the cuisine of South Texas and inspired by the restaurant’s own historic Victorian setting on East 11th Street.

We never let a good happy hour get passed us, so we visited the Rosewood with our own Sara Kim (@atxfitfoodie) for a taste of everything on the happy hour menu.  We arrived hungry, but left in a slight food coma.  See below.

What to Order

Drinks

The new happy hour drink menu offers rosé on tap ($5), red and white wine ($5), and draft beers ($4.) Cocktails on offer include the Hemmingway($7), Grilled Fruit Sangria ($6), Kalimotxo Sangria ($6), and Watermelon Mint Paloma($7.)

Pimento Cheese Dip
Seared Lamb Liver

Food

We didn’t hold back on sampling every food item on the happy hour menu, starting with the Pimento Cheese ($7) and Grilled Oysters ($12) and the Seared Lamb Liver (6) as a light snack.  The Pimento and grilled oysters were both as delicious as one might expect, especially if you’re used to indulging in it as a starter.  Seared liver is typically  more of an acquired taste especially if it’s based from any kind of red meat.  It’s prepared with their own blend of spices and topped with fresh onions making it a little more appealing than you might expect, depending on your palate for liver in general.

The heavier items include more upscaled crowd pleasers in the Patty Melt burger ($12) and Fried Chicken.  The Patty melt is also offered on the lunch menu but you’ll save a couple of dollars when you enjoy during happy hour.  Both are delicious and pretty enough for any Instagram feed.  Just don’t spend all evening shooting too many pictures and let your food get cold!
