Greater Goods Roasting Launches in Austin

Greater Goods Coffee Roasters have announced their launch in Austin with the mission to make great coffee supporting great causes right here in the Texas capitol. With each bag sold, a portion of proceeds goes to benefit one of four local organizations: Austin Pets Alive!, The Autism Society of Central Texas, Capital Area Food Bank and Boys & Girls Clubs of Austin. Bags of coffee are color-coded by charity so purchasers will always know which organization they are supporting.

Created by husband-wife team, Trey Cobb and Khanh Trang, Greater Goods does all of it’s roasting right outside the city in Dripping Springs. “Coffee philanthropy is nothing new, but we thought why not create amazing coffee and give back, right here in our own backyard?” said Cobb.

Greater Goods Roasting combines high quality beans sourced from around the world with expert coffee roasting techniques to develop some of the most unique and delicious brews Austin has to offer. Before starting Greater Goods and taking on the role of Lead Roaster, Trang immersed herself into learning everything about coffee from brewing methods to flavor profiles, as well as training with Klatch Coffee’s renowned Roast Master, Mike Perry. Cobb’s background in engineering and business is utilized in his current role managing the production side of Greater Goods Roasting. Both Cobb and Trang are active members of Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and the Roasters Guild.

This devotion to their craft is clear in Greater Goods products, which range from single origin to espresso blends. Two espresso offerings, ‘Spark’ and ‘Kickstart,’ have already won medals in the Golden Bean Coffee Roasters competition for 2015.  Greater Goods obtains only the world’s best beans and in fact, only 2% of all the coffee grown worldwide meets their specialty-grade requirement. “Coffee is very dynamic, due in part to factors such as soil, elevation, when it was harvested, and how it was processed,” said Trang. “Our approach in finding and highlighting the best attributes of each coffee is equal parts art and science. Once these traits are found, we consistently roast it so the coffee you fall in love with remains the same week after week.”

2016 is poised to be a busy year for Greater Goods, with their coffees hitting the shelves of Whole Foods Austin locations very soon and two retail operations in the works on the east side. Greater Goods will be opening both a grab-and-go outpost and a more traditional coffee shop, with training and event space that can be utilized by their charitable partners, later this year. Greater Goods Coffee is currently available for purchase online via www.greatergoodsroasting.com and at locations of Bee Cave Coffee, as well as select retail shops around Austin.
