Nestled in the west Austin Hill Country, about 15 miles from downtown Austin, The Wayback Café and Cottages opened its doors to guests in the Fall of 2018. Lead by Mother-daughter Vicki Bly and Sydney Sue, it has become a rustic haven of eight modern farmhouse cottages designed to allow guests a relaxing getaway from the city on three acres of open space, with breathtaking views of the rolling hills of Central Texas.
The property’s cafe serves as the property’s central hub, serving delicious farm-to-table plates, coffee, organic wine and local beer, as well as a few creative cocktails. The cafe has also become a destination the Good Seed Supper Series, which features monthly dinner parties that invites guests to savor the local flavors of Texas while breaking bread with new friends and guests who are encouraged to make social connections that are meant to inspire curiosity and enlightenment with in our community.
Founded by long-time friends Lana Bernberg and Natasha Antonioni, the series was created to forge meaningful experiences by sharing a meal with like minded people who enjoy deep conversations filled with new ideas and topics that spark a connection beyond the dinner table.
The Good Seed Supper series invites guests to expand their perspective by engaging in conversation based on a focused question presented by the hosts. In addition, each dinner features an invited secret speaker that presents a personal and compelling story, providing their introspective view on a chosen topic or experience. This dinning experience is meant to be more than just a shared meal, it’s meant to inspire connection through the fellowship of connection while celebrating our combined passion for great food.
Each dinner in the series is hosted outdoors (weather permitting) under the stars and oak trees, with a menu boasting locally sourced, farm fresh ingredients prepared by in house chef Austin Alvarez. Our visit featured a delightful menu with the first course offering a salad made with fresh Heirloom tomatoes, chèvre, sliced oranges, fennel, strawberries, black olive soil and sweet red onions. The second course featured cauliflower and radish sautéed in brown butter with rosemary, lemon zest and mint. The third course was by far our favorite, featuring Gulf red snapper with a green tomato soup and rice. The meal concluded with a strawberry and chamomile sorbet.
Every dinner in the Good Seed series focuses on celebrating the bounty of locally sourced cuisine meshed with the goal of creating deeper connection among all guests in attendance, making it one of the most unique dining experiences in Austin. Tickets to the dinner are $75 per person with drinks available for purchase. For more information on the Wayback Austin and Good Seed Supper Series, visit

New Orleans, LA - On October 22, 2024, I recently had an opportunity to attend the grand opening of Caesars New Orleans, marking the completion of a stunning $435 million transformation of the former Harrah’s New Orleans. It was an evening to remember, filled with excitement, luxury, and the vibrant spirit of New Orleans. The festivities began on Canal Street with an exhilarating ceremony led by Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg, President & COO Anthony Carano, and Caesars New Orleans General Manager Samir Mowad. The atmosphere was electric as they joined Caesar himself and an iconic New Orleans second-line band in a lively procession into the casino. It felt like the entire city had come out to celebrate, with Caesars New Orleans team members and Mayor LaToya Cantrell also joining the event to commemorate this historic occasion. Anthony Carano’s pride in introducing Caesars to New Orleans was palpable. “From local favorite Emeril Lagasse to our long-time partner, Chef Nobu, to the beautiful state-of-the-art Caesars Sportsbook, all-new rooms and gaming floor, and of course, our gorgeous new center bar, Octavia, Caesars New Orleans offers something for everyone. It’s a world-class resort in the heart of the Big Easy, and we can’t wait for our guests to experience it,” he said. The ceremony was a spectacle, kicking off with an iconic Mardi Gras float featuring Caesar and his court, and a dazzling firework show that lit up the New Orleans sky. The second-line band then led us revelers into the resort’s elegant center bar, Octavia, where we indulged in a “Taste of Caesars New Orleans.” Each bite from the six on-property restaurants was a delightful journey, capturing the essence of New Orleans’ rich culinary scene. Throughout the night, elemental entertainers, including the Saints Cheer Krewe, Mardi Gras Indians, Zulu Tramps, and showgirls, created an authentic and unforgettable Big Easy experience. Everywhere I turned, there was something new to marvel at, each performance more mesmerizing than the last. Samir Mowad, SVP and GM of Caesars New Orleans, highlighted the significance of the transformation, stating, “This year marks 25 years since we opened in New Orleans, and the completion of this project is the perfect way to usher in a new era with Caesars. Synonymous with the Caesars name, our new resort is pure elegance, and we’re excited to introduce a luxury brand like this to New Orleans. We are extremely grateful for the support of the community, our team members, and our guests as we come to the finish line of this tremendous transformation.” The hotel itself is impressive,…
