Brunch is the corner stone of great weekends in Austin.  It’s not just a meal, its an entire way to experience Saturday and Sunday.  Benedicts might be the staple of every brunch menu in Austin, but a big ass breakfast sandwich will eclipse nearly any appetite and will be worthy of the trail of bread crumbs and egg drippings you’ll have on your shirt afterward.

Biscuit Sandwiches

Holy Roller

Callie Speer has produced the most epic chicken biscuit sandwich in town with the one and only Casbah.  It comes loaded with their house fried chicken, hot honey-buttered biscuit, comeback sauce, fried egg and a side of syryup.  It’s a beautiful beast!

 

Walton’s Fancy & Staple

Walton’s Biscuit Sandwich comes with a fried farm egg, smoked Graton cheddar and aioli with a choice of smoked bacon, sausage or tomato!

 

Rise Biscuits and Donuts

Rise offers unique biscuit sandwiches featuring favorite fillings like buttermilk-brined fried chicken, crispy bacon, salt-cured ham and country sausage topped with egg, cheese, and spreads.

 

Breakfast Burgers

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

Hopdoddy Burger Bar has released their first ever breakfast burger and it’s not your average beef patty with an egg on top.  This drool-worthy burger features a seasoned Angus beef, breakfast sausage and smoked ham patty topped with scrambled eggs, three strips of Applewood smoked bacon, American cheese, potato hash and herbed mayo on a homemade brioche bun.

 

Josephine House

The house Breakfast Burger represents everything you could want in a burger and a breakfast sandwhich in Josephine House’s signature style on a house baked bun, juicy grass fed burger, fried egg, bacon, greens, harissa aïoli and a side of frites.

Open Faced Sandwiches

Chef Amir’s Salmon Smoked Toast is an open face work of art.  It comes loaded with pastrami smoked salmon, lemon ricotta, capers, shallots, heirloom tomatoes, arugula and a sunny farm egg with a side of yogurt and granola.

 

Blue Dahlia

Bue Dahlia technically doesn’t offer a brunch menu, but the restaurant opens at 9am during the week so you might as well consider it breakfast.  Thier open faced Tartine sandwiches come in multiple options on freshly baked whole wheat bread (gluten free optional).  My two favorites are the Ham & Gruyère with Dijon mustard, cornichons or the Sliced Cold Smoked Salmon with herbed cream cheese and fresh dill.

 

Badass and Breaded

Wild Chix

Locally owned Wild Chix & Waffles makes a fried chicken and waffle sandwich puts an entirely new spin on the concept of chicken and waffles.  The scratch-made savory and sweet waffles is stuffed with free range and never frozen chicken from East Poultry.  You can eat breakfast any time of day at Wild Chix, as the sandwich is available from open to close.  

 

 

Emmer & Rye

Chef Kevin Fink’s culinary artistry has no limits.  Emmer and Rye has established itself as one of the most prominent restaurants in Austin boasting a seasonal, rustic-inspired, American contemporary menu both at dinner and brunch.  The Braised Pork Sandwich is simple and something of genius, as it’s loaded with smoked pork, fried egg, aioli, tomato and kale stuffed in a house made English muffin.

 

Native Hostel Kitchen & Bar

The Native Style Banh Mi doesn’t exactly play by the old breakfast sandwich rules.  This sandwich will give you all the East Austin vibes as it’s stuffed with Fried chicken thigh, kimchi omelet, carrot slaw, fresh herbs, chiles, adobo aioli.

 

Snap Kitchen

The breakfast game is about to change at Snap Kitchen thanks to this delicious, portable, Turkey Sausage Paleo breakfast sandwich.  The magic in this sandwich lies in the bun, which includes a mix of almond flour, coconut flour, egg, extra virgin olive oil, organic apple cider vinegar, and–wait for it–CAULIFLOWER. The best part? It tastes just like the bread you crave, but is made with ingredients you can actually pronounce.

New Orleans, LA - On October 22, 2024, I recently had an opportunity to attend the grand opening of Caesars New Orleans, marking the completion of a stunning $435 million transformation of the former Harrah’s New Orleans. It was an evening to remember, filled with excitement, luxury, and the vibrant spirit of New Orleans. The festivities began on Canal Street with an exhilarating ceremony led by Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg, President & COO Anthony Carano, and Caesars New Orleans General Manager Samir Mowad. The atmosphere was electric as they joined Caesar himself and an iconic New Orleans second-line band in a lively procession into the casino. It felt like the entire city had come out to celebrate, with Caesars New Orleans team members and Mayor LaToya Cantrell also joining the event to commemorate this historic occasion. Anthony Carano’s pride in introducing Caesars to New Orleans was palpable. “From local favorite Emeril Lagasse to our long-time partner, Chef Nobu, to the beautiful state-of-the-art Caesars Sportsbook, all-new rooms and gaming floor, and of course, our gorgeous new center bar, Octavia, Caesars New Orleans offers something for everyone. It’s a world-class resort in the heart of the Big Easy, and we can’t wait for our guests to experience it,” he said. The ceremony was a spectacle, kicking off with an iconic Mardi Gras float featuring Caesar and his court, and a dazzling firework show that lit up the New Orleans sky. The second-line band then led us revelers into the resort’s elegant center bar, Octavia, where we indulged in a “Taste of Caesars New Orleans.” Each bite from the six on-property restaurants was a delightful journey, capturing the essence of New Orleans’ rich culinary scene. Throughout the night, elemental entertainers, including the Saints Cheer Krewe, Mardi Gras Indians, Zulu Tramps, and showgirls, created an authentic and unforgettable Big Easy experience. Everywhere I turned, there was something new to marvel at, each performance more mesmerizing than the last.
