Woodinville, Washington, a quaint town about 20 miles east of Seattle, has nearly half of all wineries northeast of Seattle. Staying in Seattle? There’s a bike trail from Woodinville to Seattle so you can get a tour of the area before tasting your way through Woodinville. While the area is known as a wine country, spirits and beer are not forgotten. Here are 8 delicious ways you’ll want to wet your whistle in beautiful Woodinville.

J. Bookwalter Tasting Studio

While they don’t have a vineyard onsite, the tasting room feels like you’ve just walked into a library. Their wines have literary names like Antagonist, Subplot and Foreshadow. They don’t press their reds, so prepare your palate for a distinct flavor.

When driving up to this tasting room, make sure to keep an eye out for the sign – if you blink, you’ll miss it. The house-turned-tasting room is nestled in the midst of trees, so it makes you feel like you’ve driven outside the city. The winery’s offerings are all-around good. The Sauvignon Blanc is crisp, the Margaret’s Vineyard Rose is fragrant with floral notes and the Longevity is a Bordeaux-style wine that has become a staple for the brand.

Patterson Cellars

John Patterson is an industry leader for Woodinville Wine Country. While he helps other wineries with wine processing and bottling, he is the winemaker and owner of Patterson Cellars. The winery first opened in 2000 and is now producing more than 4,000 cases of wine each year. A wine flight is only $10 and showcases 5-6 wines, so you can taste standard single varietals and sophisticated blends. If you like dessert wine, try the award-winning Late Harvest Roussanne.

 

Pondera Winery

Located in the Warehouse District, Pondera Winery is a family-owned boutique winery. They only make 2,000 cases annually, so each wine is very limited. Enjoy a tasting while browsing the rotating art around the tasting room. The 2012 Stillwater Creek Syrah recently won a gold medal at the 2016 Cascadia Wine Competition, so make sure to grab a bottle for your wine cellar.

 

BEER

Dirty Bucket Brewing Co.

Walking into Dirty Bucket Brewing Co. is reminiscent of a bar – there’s pub tables, a line of taps and a stage for local musicians. The atmosphere creates the perfect environment for enjoying a flight of craft beers. We recommend the malty Black Lab American Stout, extra-hoppy XXX-Tra Filty IPA and the light Dirty Blonde Ale.

 

Redhook Brewery

14300 145th Avenue NE

Celebrating its 35th anniversary, Redhook Brewery has been around even before the craft beer movement took off. The company has 2 locations: Portsmouth and Woodinville. Redhook currently brews four year-round craft beers: Long Hammer IPA, ESB, Audible Ale and Game Changer. Redhook is nationally distributed and can be found in select Austin grocery stores and a handful of establishments, including Fleming’s in the Domain.

Wildwood Spirits Co.

This brand was built on the farm to table concept: 90% percent of the produce used for distilling Wildwood Spirits Co. spirits, from winter wheat to Braeburn apples to Douglas fir, is grown in Washington state. Whether you’re in the mood to sip a chilled vodka or gin, prepare your taste buds for a crisp, clear sensation.

Watch out Kentucky – Woodinville Whiskey is mashed, distilled, aged and bottled in Washington State. The straight Bourbon whiskey is hand-crafted in small batches to ensure optimal quality. It won several awards at the American Distilling Institute Spirits Competition this year, including Best of Class, Best of Category and 1st Place/Gold. Take the tour of the distillery to get a behind-the-scenes look before sampling in the tasting room.
