34th Street Cafe has recently revamped their central Austin urban space and a new menu that champions its tradition of being a scratch kitchen focused on fresh food and chef-driven creations.   The reimagined menu and redesigned look—spearheaded by Sparrow Interiors—reaffirm 34th Street as a classic cafe and one of the city’s bright spots.

The refresh extends to the interior as well. Bernal was looking for an updated contemporary design that proved symbiotic with the cafe ambience that patrons have embraced over the years. Austin-based Sparrow Interiors, led by Elizabeth Cates and Mellen Hunter and known for its mix of vintage and modern, has done just that. The designers created a welcoming neighborhood space, featuring a wine bar and community table, that is refreshingly eclectic and chic—and decidedly not fussy. The feel is fresh, festive, and inviting.

New Menu

Chef Paul Petersen has reinvigorated the cafe’s daytime offerings with various creative and forward thinking options like salad bowls, chalupas with fire-roasted salsa, and hot lunches like meatloaf and wild mushrooms.  The new lunch menu features various salad bowls like salmon with quinoa and arugula, a venison burger with Jones Ranch venison and caramelized onion on a brioche roll, and a daily hot lunch (Tuesday is stir fry; Friday is chicken enchiladas) that typically sells out.

The dinner menu offers a relaxing experience, with recommended wine pairings from the seasonally changing menu.  New entrées include everything from risotto with sage sausage and Chardonnay raisins, to quail salad with peaches drizzled in smoked onion vinaigrette and a brisket burger with mushroom and Gruyère on a brioche bun that complement beloved mainstays.

34th Street Cafe is located at 1005 West 34th Street and is open Monday through Saturday for lunch, happy hour, and dinner. For more information about 34th Street Cafe, go to www.34thstreetcafe.com or call 512-371-3400.
