Wonder Women of Wine Community Initiative Celebrates Female Winemakers

During the month of March, Austin wine enthusiasts can celebrate and taste women-owned and women-produced wines by participating in the Wonder Women of Wine’s (WWOW) new community initiative supported by more than a dozen local restaurants and businesses. These restaurants will dedicate space on their wine lists for underrepresented winemakers, offering “by the glass” women-made wines, and Twin Liquors will feature women-owned wines in its 100+ wine stores across Texas.

 

Austinites can show their support for women in the wine industry by visiting participating restaurants and businesses that will donate a portion of their proceeds to WWOW. Wine enthusiasts are also invited to attend one of the largest wine tastings from women winemakers and women owners during the WWOW Conference’s Sunday Interactive Tasting, which will feature more than 50 vendors pouring more than 100 wines.

Twin Liquors, as part of its sponsorship of the Women of Wine Conference, will also tag about 200 wines made from women-owned wineries or women winemakers in its Twin stores in Austin, Houston and San Antonio, and in Sigel’s stores in Dallas, making it easy for consumers to purchase and support women-owned wines.

In addition, Lenoir will host a “Backyard Wine & Paella Party” on March 7 to benefit WWOW, offering wine tastings, snacks and seafood paella. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door.

WWOW is also hosting its first event in Dallas called “Dallas Does WWOW” on March 1 at Taco Y Vino. WWOW co-founder Rania Zayyat will speak at the party that will include women-made wines, snacks and raffles.

WWOW is an organization dedicated to closing the gender gap between women and men in the wine industry and advocating for women in leadership positions. The second annual WWOW Conference, March 28-29, will bring more than 300 wine professionals and enthusiasts together to discuss and strategize how to change the outlook for women’s professional growth and success in the wine industry. Open to all gender identities, the 2020 conference offers one-day, full weekend, and all-access conference tickets ranging from $75 to $225.
