Nominations are open for culinary scholarships from Austin’s chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International, a local organization of culinary professional women. The organization will also offer a stipend for women pursuing continuing education in the food, beverage and hospitality industry, called “Beyond the Classroom.” In total, the Austin Dames will award up to $15,000 in scholarships and stipends.

The Austin Les Dames scholarships are for local women who are pursuing full-time culinary coursework in a culinary arts program for professional development. Applications for both awards must be submitted online by 5PM, August 31, 2018.

The Austin Dames will select women to receive Beyond the Classroom stipends for career-related continuing education expenses, such as conference attendance, exams and professional certification. Applicants for this stipend must be currently employed in the food industry with two or more years of relevant experience. Additionally, past accomplishments, references and career goals will be considered.

“For years we’ve been helping students finish their studies and pursue their dreams in the culinary, beverage, and hospitality industries. We’re excited to continue doing that, as well as recognize and assist those professionals already in the industry seeking to further their education with our Beyond The Classroom stipends“ said Kendall Antonelli, scholarship committee chairperson.

Scholarship applicants must have completed at least 20 credit hours, have a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher, and be enrolled currently in a local certificate or associate’s degree program in culinary arts, baking and pastry, or hospitality and restaurant management. Scholarships are awarded based on academic accomplishments, references, financial need, goals, aspirations, initiative, and culinary-related experience. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition or program fees only. Checks will be issued directly to institutions. Funds may not be applied to living expenses.

LDEI is an organization of women leaders around the world who create a supportive culture in their communities to achieve excellence in the food, beverage, and hospitality professions. To do this, members in the chapters provide leadership, educational opportunities, and host philanthropic events within their communities.

The application period is online and open through 8/31.
