Summer has arrived and with temperatures rising, one of the best things to turn to to cool down is gelato. The Tasty Spoon Gelateria is now open for business and offering fun flavors to try all summer.
Tasty Spoon, located at 1413 S. First St., is a quaint house with a big “backyard” with tables and lawn games to play while enjoying their tasty gelatos.
Ashley MacDonald, the owner, studied at Gelato University in Bologna, Italy (a real thing!) and opened up shop in Austin in a newly renovated house on South First.
The flavors range from rich and creamy like their Mint Chocolate Chip (which is the favorite of McDonald) and Chocolate Peanut Butter to fresh and fruity like their not-too-sweet Strawberry Sorbet and Mango-Peach Sorbet made with Fredericksburg peaches.
For something a tad different, try one of their dairy-free flavors such as Dark Chocolate or Almond Rose, which is unusual but refreshing.
These gelatos pair well with the coffee, espresso and cold brew offered by the gelateria.
The lawn in the back of the house has picnic tables, string lights and plenty of lawn games to enjoy, like croquet and cornhole. Though the summer heat might discourage you from enjoying the outdoors, there are fans to cool you down and MacDonald promises a outdoor cooling system in the future.
The Tasty Spoon is open Wednesdays and Sundays from 12-9p.m., Thursdays from 12-10p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 12-11p.m.
Stop by Tasty Spoon with kids or a date to enjoy the gelato and the ambiance.
