Philidelphia based Pizzeria Vetri has opened it’s first non-Philly location along the drag in Space 24 Twenty the latest Urban Outfitters complex, across the street from the University of Texas campus.

Space

Pizzeria Vetri brings their east coast touch to campus, staying true to it’s Philly roots boasting their indoor communal seating with 15 stools facing a long counter table in front of an open bar and kitchen where patrons will be able see their Neapolitan pies being made.  There’s also an outdoor patio, which seats 65 people in a shared courtyard with easy access to the other shops in Space 24 Twenty.

Pizza

Owner Marc Vetri’s signature Neapolitan style utilizes fine ingredients from local farms and markets, making just about everything in-house and from scratch. Their signature dishes features traditional classics like the Margherita (with basil, mozzarella and tomato) and the Marinara (with oregano, crushed San Marzano, garlic and olive oil), as well as a few inventive options like the Crudo (black pepper pecorino & prosciutto crudo) and the Tonno (Sicilian tuna, onion, mozzarella, tomato sauce and pepperoncino).  If you’re feeding a group of four, order rectangle “pizza of the day” large enough to feed 6 people.

If you have a sweet tooth, the desserts are fun and satisfying.  Go for the Fried Pizza Dough (with citrus fennel sugar) and Affogato Fiordilatte (soft serve with a shot of espresso) which is always a huge hit on the menu and great as a little pick me up to keep you from drifting in to a pizza coma, The star of the bunch is the Nutella Pizza with oven baked Nutella and marshmallow.

Value

Prices generally range from $12 – $25 per pie, depending on the toppings and size selected.  It’s a slightly higher price for pizza in the campus area, but the quality is a huge step above most of the neighboring pizzerias.  Patrons can also choose from a selection of three rotating beers as well as a decent selection of red and white wine available on tap. They also feature decent a selection of bottled cocktails including the V + T (Tito’s and house made tonic), the Sloe Gin Fizz Italiano (sloe gin, bluecoat, limoncello, club soda), and a barrel-aged ‘Brooklyn’ (dad’s hat rye, luxardo maraschino, vermouth, ramazzotti).

Pizzeria Vetri is an attractive addition to Space 24 Twenty and students living in the area will appreciate the overall quality of the pies as it’s easily the best available anywhere on campus.
