Maie Day, a community chophouse, is now open at South Congress Hotel replacing the previous restaurant Central Standard. The restaurant is a concept from two local Austin hospitality companies, New Waterloo and MaieB Hospitality, who also collaborated on Butler Pitch & Putt. Maie Day is open daily from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.. Three-time James Beard ‘Best Chef, Southwest’ finalist, Michael Fojtasek, is the founder and executive chef of MaieB Hospitality and Maie Day.

The name “Maie Day” also draws from Fojtasek’s restaurant Olamaie, a name that has been in his family for six generations and includes his beloved grandmother, mother and daughter.

The menu at Maie Day is designed to be a playful take on a classic steakhouse offering great steaks, sides and cocktails, but with its own South Congress style – casual, lively, and always a party. The appetizers include smoked fish dip, peel ‘n eat shrimp with Maie Day Sauce, cold shaved prime rib, and Texas chopped salad. Mains will feature a daily grilled whole fish, grass-fed rib-eye, a butcher’s steak, and prime rib. A plethora of sides include scalloped potatoes, grilled green beans, creamed corn, grilled tomatoes, and creamed greens. The dessert program will feature large-format cakes and, rumor has it, the greatest cookie tower South Congress has ever seen. The reimagined space will reflect the hallmarks of a jubilant backyard gathering: tables that can easily grow as friends pull up a chair and pops of spirited color.

Maie Day reservations are available now at maieday.com. Complimentary two-hour parking is available in the South Congress Hotel garage with validation; valet parking is available for $8 per hour. Hours will be 3:00 p.m. to  10:00 p.m. daily with brunch coming soon.
