Little City Coffee Roasters has announced its official re-launch in Austin, bringing back the coffee from the iconic Austin café, a beloved spot for Austinites for nearly 20 years (1993-2011). Little City is a brand synonymous with classic Austin and there was no better place to watch Austin’s creative scene unfold than at Little City Café. After a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015, Little City’s small team of local java lovers began traveling to origin countries, bringing some of the world’s best coffees back to Austin. The five blends that were created as a result of these trips are in stores now under the Little City moniker.
The original Little City Café was well known throughout Austin for roasting all its coffee in house as well as providing coffee to local restaurants and coffee shops. While unfortunately the café shut its doors in 2011, that same year Joel Shuler of the award-winning Austin roaster, Casa Brasil, stepped in to purchase Little City Coffee Roasters in order to keep the brand alive.
“We are excited to finally be able to bring these coffees back into the hands of the people who loved Little City Coffee by making them available on the shelves of retailers and coffee shops,” said Shuler. “We’re also looking forward to bringing these incredible coffees that are easy to drink, and easy to find, to a whole new group of people.”
It is this philosophy of “Everyone deserves a great cup of coffee” that is at the core of what Little City does. Little City’s team of experienced coffee professionals (50+ years of coffee between them with the cupping accolades to boot) travel the world, tasting hundreds of coffees in pursuit of incredible beans that are fresh off of harvest to bring back to Austin. While the brand has just launched, the team has already been to places as diverse as Guatemala, Brazil, Mexico, and Myanmar to find incredible coffees. Once in Austin, all the coffees are stored in a climate controlled warehouse until they are roasted to order in small batches, with each batch cupped to ensure that it hits the shelves at its full potential. Beyond the team’s obsession with coffee, their goal is to make sure these incredible beans make it not only to restaurants and coffee shops, but to the local corner market where you grab your favorite six pack of craft beer.
