I was excited to hear that Craftsman had opened and was eager to check out the place and what they had to offer. Located on the corner of East Cesar Chavez and Adam Chapa at 2000 E. Cesar Chavez, it completes my Trifecta (Stay Gold, drinks and now Craftsman).
Once you get past the beautiful crisp white wrap around porch, you see the gorgeous original wood used in the entire place. Built in the 1920’s, this transformed home has most of the original wood on the floors and walls. They pulled up the old vinyl flooring and paneling from the walls and thought “it had great bones” according to owner Brandon Testa. They added a stage, some tin ceilings and great tile wall feature in the back room by the bathrooms (Be sure to go into the bathrooms and check out the great wallpaper!). There are custom murals painted throughout the bar, the large mural out back from the previous owners and the decor was picked by Brandon’s fiancee along with some cool stuff they found in the attic. My favorite features were the charging station on the wall (made from the old phone booth with 1983 phone book) and the built in chargers under the bar with USB plugs.
The craft cocktails have some great unusual names like Drop Your Pants, What’s the Circumference of a Circle and Italian Stallion; you can’t help but want to try them all. I was pleased that they used Reyka Vodka for their vodka based signature drinks. Read reviews on the cocktails at vodkagirlatx.tumblr.com A food truck will be parked out front soon as well. Violet (the new food truck by Valentina’s) will serve a nice variety of grub 7 days a week. Other things in the works are a front patio where the existing parking area is now, DJ regularly on Friday and Saturdays, and fun entertainment for Sunday Fundays.
Mark your calendars for May 3rd, starting at noon for their official Grand Opening Party featuring drink specials and fun stuff.
Owners Brandon Testa and Ali Sabzevari are some cool guys to hang out with. “We wanted a place with a good vibe and a good party” Craftsman is definitely going to to be that place. Oh and did I mention they have Prosecco on tap? Follow them at https://www.facebook.com/craftsmanbar
