Quesoff is the annual celebration of all things melted cheese and took place at The Mohawk (912 Red River) on Saturday, August 20th where around 20 participants went head to head in four queso categories – Meaty, Spicy, Veggie and Wild Card.  A Best in Show was awarded to Frank Hot Dogs and Cold Beer as the overall top queso as decided by the judges.


This year, Quesoff benefits the Central Texas Food Bank where every entry was free with a donation of two canned goods per person.



This year’s esteemed panel of judges was comprised of: Abby Johnston, Assistant Editor, TexasMonthly.com; Jay Russell, Chief Creative Officer GSD&M;  John Antonelli, Owner, Antonelli’s Cheese Shop; Joshua Bingaman, Founder & CEO, Helm Boots and Nadia Chaudhury, Editor, Eater Austin.


Former champs Cream Team, Cheesus and Strange Goo also returned to this year’s competition; along with restaurants who have enjoyed past glory such as Frank and Mighty Bird. Other restaurants in the mix this year include VERTS Mediterranean Grill, Kesos Taco House, Pelon’s Tex-Mex, Trudy’s, Jack Allen’s Kitchen, Salt & Time, Serrano’s, Posse East, Iron Cactus, Z’Tejas, and The Flying Saucer.
