If you consider yourself a pizza lover, you can no longer deny the amount of great pizza we now have in Austin.  Considering this town is made up of self-proclaimed foodies, and food bloggers I’d venture to say that there are plenty of strong opinions when it comes to great pizza.  Well have no fear Pizza lovers, Austinites can now rejoice at the amount of amazing options around the city nowadays. Just take a quick look around and you’ll find excellent pizza at every corner of the city. However, one area that doesn’t get much love, is Austin’s Hill Country area.

Tucked away among the many cute boutique shopping centers of Westlake is Mayre’s Gourmet Pizza.  This adorable little spot is a jewel in the heart of the rolling hills of one of Austin’s most popular neighborhoods.  It’s easy to forget about this stalwart, what with all the other fantastic options downtown, but this is hill country pizza at it’s finest and possibly one of the best you’ll find in the city.  From the moment you step in to restaurant you’ll immediately notice the updated interior which is both modern and elegant.  However if you’re like me, the distinctive doughy smells is the most important thing.  Nothing beats the smell of fresh pizza crust to wet your appetite.

Julie and Stuart Wilsey purchased Marye’s in September 2012, and quickly turned Marye’s into a cozy, modern restaurant with a knowledgeable wait staff.  They increased the wine offerings and added four beer taps pouring Austin craft beers, beefed-up the menu to include a variety of appetizers, salads, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches and desserts — all made when possible with seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms, producers and distributors such as Johnson’s Backyard Garden, Farm to Table, McCall Creek Farms, East Poultry Company, Pedernales Valley Farms, Durham-Ellis Pecans and a variety of area farmers markets. The Wilseys also committed to providing Marye’s guests with only the highest quality products.

The high quality ingredients making the handcrafted pizzas sauces, salad dressings and signature dough use only the finest natural, unrefined ingredients. Mayre’s allows their dough to rest at least a day, then hand toss it to ensure a delicious, golden crust. They also offer delicious, crispy, gluten-free crust! Their gourmet pizzas, salads and sandwiches are made when you order and topped with locally-grown and organic herbs and vegetables*, artisan meats and cheeses, and imported extra virgin olive oil.  Their dough is made fresh daily, all salad dressings are made in-house, they stretch their own mozzarella for the caprese salad and margherita pizza, and use only organic greens in their salads.

I say “bravo!” to family and friends living in Westlake.  I’m so jealous of you because I absolutely love Mayre’s!  If you live in the city or the other side of town and you find yourself in the rolling hills of Westlake, do yourself a favor and stop by to enjoy the fare.  The amazing food and friendly staff will keep you coming back.
