I typically don’t have the opportunity to indulge in a variety of lamb dishes.  If anyone knows me, I absolutely love red meat, but it’s just not on my short list of items to pick up at the market very often.  Don’t get me wrong, lamb is delicious but I eat out A LOT and I don’t spend a ton of time in my own kitchen.

Last Sunday I was able to sample amazing lamb dishes from 16 local chefs for Austin’s inaugural Lamb Jam competition.  The event drew more than 300 hungry fans to Barr Mansion to taste globally inspired lamb dishes.  An elite panel judges including local food writers and personalities blind taste-tested 16 American lamb dishes across five categories and pronounced the following chefs winners in their categories:

Best In Show

Jacoby's WinnersChef Carlos Ysaguirre of Jacoby’s Restaurant & Mercantile

Charred Lamb Meatballs, Chickpeas, House Yogurt with Preserved Lemon.

This dish was perfect in every way.  Chef Carlos was right on the money with his simple yet inspiring meatball that was bursting with flavor making it one of my favorites of the show.  The Preserved Lemon was an unexpected yet incredible inclusion in to the flavor profile.
