AUSTIN – Home Slice Pizza, the independent neighborhood pizza joint serving authentic New York-style pizza since 2005, with RetailMeNot, announced today that it will host its ninth annualMusic By The Slice on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15. The free, two-day music charity party will be thrown on Home Slice’s back patio (1415 South Congress Avenue) and will feature 18 bands from all over the world.

Music By The Slice will not only feature an incredible music lineup with Home Slice’s award-winning pizza, attendees will also be able to enjoy snacks and beverages from local vendors teaming with Home Slice to raise money for Urban Roots. Urban Roots taps into the neighborly spirit of Austin and its vibrant sustainable, slow food movement by transforming the lives of local youth on a 3.5-acre urban farm while increasing Austinites’ access to healthy, locally grown food. Additionally, all profits from the parties’ bar sales will be donated to Urban Roots.
 
“Music By The Slice is truly a labor of love for our employees and management, and represents Home Slice’s passion and commitment to music, culture, charity, and hos-pie-tality. Our staff hand picks the lineup, paints all of the party signage, and the event is run by our own fleet of volunteers, the Pie Club – as well as volunteers from Urban Roots,” said Home Slice co-owner Jen Strickland. “We are thrilled to partner with RetailMeNot to celebrate our love of music, pizza and giving back to Austin.”

Urban Roots uses sustainable agriculture to transform the lives of young people and increase the access to healthy food in Austin. Founded in 2007, Urban Roots provides paid internships to Austin youth, ages 14-17, to work on our 3.5-acre urban sustainable farm in East Austin. Each year, we have a goal of growing 30,000 pounds of produce with the Urban Roots community of youth, community volunteers, and staff. We donate 40% of our harvest to local soup kitchens and food pantries and sell the other 60% at farmers’ markets, through our Community Supported Agriculture Program, and wholesale.
