WE CAN DO MAGIC’ – REPLACEMENT SXSW SHOWS
The Red River Cultural District, along with Austin’s live music venues around the city, today announced “We Can Do Magic,” a coalition of music programming swiftly filling the void left by SXSW show cancellations.
“What we are experiencing is unprecedented in so many ways,” said Cody Cowan, executive director of the Red River Cultural District. “The cancellation of SXSW is a true test to the grit and innovation of our live music community, and Austin’s live music venues, normally competing businesses, responded by doing something unprecedented themselves — they came together to join forces and do what they do best: book amazing and unforgettable live music experiences.”
As the safety and health of patrons, staff, and performers is always the top priority within the live music community, the venues participating in “We Can Do Magic” are working diligently to provide the cleanest and safest environments possible. Venues will be following the guidelines set forth by Austin Public Health and the CDC and adjusting policy and schedule if necessary. As always, anyone who feels sick or may be experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should stay home, and the elderly and those with underlying health conditions should exercise extreme caution.
Additionally, venues have increased their budgets on sanitation supplies, plan to double cleaning visits and performing deep cleanings prior to shows, added 20 additional handwashing stations and 15 sanitizer stations throughout live music districts, and plan frequent communication both online and in venues about best practices for cleanliness and sanitation guidelines. Once implemented, venues will monitor and measure for consistency. And once these safety and sanitation issues have been addressed, venues will turn their focus to deliver what they do — the magic of live shows.
Currently, venues and partners participating in “We Can Do Magic” include Antone’s, Barracuda, Beerland, C3 Presents, Cheer Up Charlie’s, Cosmic Coffee, Elysium, Empire Control Room & Garage, Exploded Drawing, Heard Presents, Hotel Vegas, Mohawk, Mala Vida, LEVITATION, Malverde, Margin Walker Presents, Mouthfeel, Native Hostel, Pershing, Scratchhouse, Stubb’s, Swan Dive, The North Door, and The Parish.
