Uchi and Uchiko will partner with some of Austin’s most celebrated restaurants and chefs to prepare a family style meal, similar to the dinner restaurants traditionally serve to staff before opening to the public, to benefit Uchiko server Leah Ortiz. In July 2013, Leah and her boyfriend were severely injured in a motorcycle accident which resulted in several surgeries, multiple nights in the hospital and left them unable to work for months. Both were uninsured and owe $140,000 in medical bills.
“We are so overwhelmed with the generosity of the restaurant community,” comments Leah. “We are incredibly lucky to be alive and I am excited to be back at work with my Uchiko family.”
Event proceeds directly assist Uchiko Server Leah Ortiz with extensive medical bills stemming from devastating motorcycle accident
