As we near the end of another wonderful year, it’s time once again to celebrate these happy holidays with our family and friends. Opening presents and enjoying the sparkling Christmas lights is at the top of nearly everyone’s list. While gift giving and merrymaking is the high-point of the season, our craving for mouthwatering holiday cuisine is also an essential part of the festivities.  For me, dining at Austin’s award winning Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa is a destination everyone should experience at least once during the season.

This year, we had the pleasure of enjoying the new seasonal menu in the 8212 Wine Bar & Grill.  The restaurant combines impeccable service with its own classic brand of casual elegance in a luxurious holiday setting.  The menu is prepared by Executive Chef Jason Parker and draws from the rich history of Texas with encompassing selections that blends the states culture and tasty traditions of the southwest.  It presents a polished casual dining experience that includes creative combinations such as Pork Carnitas Nachos, Charbroiled Ribeye Steak, Charbroiled Marinated Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos and a rich Chocolate “Dream” Cake for Two.

After dining in the restaurant, head over to Austin’s largest ice skating rink for a slice of winter weather fun. Omni Barton Creek Resort lights up this holiday season with the return of the resorts’ fourth annual Holiday Lights & Ice event featuring Austin’s largest ice skating rink and more than 200,000 twinkling lights.  The 4,100 square foot rink, located on the tennis court under the twinkling stars, is open to the public through January 6, 2014.  Local residents, resort guests and club members can enjoy making new holiday memories, while knowing a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish® Central & South Texas.
