Today, SPUN Ice Cream is turning one-year old and to celebrate its first birthday, the locally owned liquid nitrogen ice cream shop is giving away its handmade waffle cones as a thank you to its customers.

“It’s been a sweet first year for my sister and me at SPUN, and we’re grateful for all the support of the community so far,” said co-owner Ashley Cheng. “One of the most surprising things we hear from new customers is that they come for our waffle cones as much as the ice cream, so this felt like a fitting way to celebrate year one.”

SPUN Ice Cream will be giving away its classic plain waffle cones all day, from 12:30 p.m.-11:00 p.m. at its 1912 East 7th location only, until all the batter runs out. The shop is also selling chocolate and gingerbread flavored fresh waffle cones.

The shop’s current special sundaes are the “Peppermint Patti,” sweet cream ice cream with salted chocolate shell and peppermint snow and “Butter Pecan,” sweet cream ice cream with Texas pecan praline and brown butter powder. The menu also includes vegan gingerbread spice, dark chocolate, salted caramel and sweet cream ice cream as well as several artisanal pairings, made daily by Chef Cheng: homemade condensed milk, chocolate crumble, handcut sprinkles, mocha shell, peppermint snow, salted chocolate shell, brown butter powder, shortbread crumble and TX peanut brittle.
